Fairhaven Transitions
Here’s what we’ve come up with for the revised Road Bike and Trail Run routes and transitions.
See the Road Bike or Trail Run pages for updates and information.
This change was due to how difficult and unsafe it has been to have the road bikes end at the Fairhaven Park Transition.
Now we should have plenty of parking. Parking details still unfolding.
Fairhaven Park Transition – Bellingham Traverse
The transition area for the Bellingham Traverse has changed over the years. Our objective is to provide for a safe and fun experience while minimizing the risk to participants, spectators, volunteers and the unknowing public. We have evolved to remove the intersection of bikes and pedestrians with CARS. See the photo overview below with the explanation key at the bottom.
NO PARKING Available at Fairhaven Park. After your ride, keep on going down to Marine Park where there’s plenty of parking. (Soloist Support vehicles may enter for a short period to transfer gear). Click on image below for larger view.
1. Bikes on Sidewalk – This is where the Road Bikes will be using the Bike Lane to exit the street onto the sidewalk in front of the little red building at the entrance to the apartments. Slow down, please.
2. Path on Dirt – This small inconvenience is to avoid CARS. Exit the sidewalk and follow the arrows down the small dirt path that drops into the Parking Lot. Slow down, please.
3. Curb into Parking Lot – There’s a small drop off the curb into the parking lot. Slow down, please.
4. Transition Area – The most southern area of the parking lot is reserved for the transition area. This is where the COHO (tandem) and CHUM (team) will tag hands with their teammates and start the Trail Run.
5. Soloists will have a designated area for their gear. Have that pair of running shoes waiting and a place to ditch your gear. We’ll have a tarp laid out in the morning so you can place your stuff.
6. Specatators and Teammates – Here’s where we’d like for everybody to hang out while you wait for your teammates to come in on their bikes.
Think FISH!
